Session information and style guide
As a mother myself, I understand how hard it feels to dress yourself in the third trimester. As a result, I get lots of questions about the ideal clothes to wear for an outdoor maternity photography session.
You may be wondering what to expect and how to prepare for your maternity photo session, so I’ve got a few tips and tricks for you!
TIMING OF SESSION: I recommend doing a maternity shoot between 32-36 weeks of your due date. This will allow me to show off your cute bump and still be able to move and be comfortable for flattering poses.
OUTFIT CHOICES: Wear what makes you feel beautiful! Clothing can really add to the feeling of your images and compliment the location chosen. I recommend choosing solid color for maternity sessions and staying aways from neon colors, large logos and overly busy patterns. Strong patterns will distract attention to the clothes instead of you and your belly.
Make sure you choose an outfit that shows off your belly. You can add layers like scarves, jackets, or accessories to change up your look without having to change your outfit. If requested, we can have an outfit change to add variety.
For a dressier outfit I absolutely love flowing, long maternity dresses and they are a great way to add fashion to your images and can really incorporate movement in your photos.
PROPS: I am usually against props as I feel they can take away from the connection and emotion of a session. However, for a maternity session I actually encourage them. Anything that will help personalize the session and help you to remember the moment later in time.
